Uncle Sam has repayed the loan I gave him! so here is where the question begins. I have enough money in my budget to lift my 99 XJ and buy wheels & tires... or a locker, but not both. so what would you get and why did you choose that. a quick run down on my XJ...

Why not get a 3'' inch lift, 31's and a lunch box locker for the rear axle? Actually, how much do you want to lift it? Can you use your stock tires and wheels a little longer? Have you tried to find any of the parts used in the for sale section?

tires are the best upgrade you can do to a fourwheel drive in my opinion do the tires and then save up and get a locker later on

Lift and tires for sure. You might end up changing your mind on the locker of even the rear end and swap in a stronger rear end. With a lift and good tires you will be able to go a lot of places. Just my thoughts. I did lift and tires 13 years ago and still haven't done lockers and go pretty much everywhere my locked buddies do.

Clearance? The reason why you want lift is ground clearance and suspension articulation. With lockers the only thing you need to worry about is ground clearance. I am open at both ends and I wish I would have locked before I went to 4.5. If your sticking with the same axles get a locker.
