Default Winch newb question.

I just installed me XRC8 on my RLC fab bumper. I pulled out the majority of the synthetic line and pulled my self to a tree walking slowly in front of the Jeep feeding the line left to right while my buddy gently applied the brake so it was nice and tight. My question is, if I have to pull my self out the mud or what ever and I am in the Jeep, what is to stop the line from bunching as it won;t go left to right and back it's self? And I noticed if I pull the line in and it's not under tension it contacts the mounting plate slightly as it bunches, so if it all wound in the center it might damage the rope as I pull my self out. Is the correct method to not be in the driver seat , but instead feeding the line in front as you get pulled? Does not seem that safe. thanks

Chances are you will not have to do a full pull with the winch that is rare. I have the same winch I have yet to use it to recover myself but the longest pulls I usually have to do are roughly 35ft, I try to keep tension on the cable until there is about 15 or so feet left then I just pull on the cable and guide it until its fully drawn in. if most of the drum is wrapped tight the rope will not turn into a rats nest .

I have the same winch, but with the steel cable on it. I haven't had any issues with the cable getting all bunched up and tangled up, and Ive used it quite a bit.
I do occasionally pull the cable out and wind it up nice and neat though, just to help keep it from getting tangled up on the drum.
