I just did mine about a month ago with some spray on bed liner that I got on eBay. It took about a week to cure but its as hard as a rock now. It came with enough to do both bumpers, wheel wells and rockers.

its' far less important about which type of coating you use than it is about how you prep the surface.

My procedure always is as follows:

1) remove old paint/rust (yay! you can skip this step!)
2) ROUGHEN the surface to be painted with 150-200 grit sandpaper
3) wipe down the entire thing in mineral spirits (do not touch afterwards with your bare hands, oil is the devil to spray paint) and let dry
4) Paint VERY light first coat of primer
5) 10 minutes later apply light second coat of primer
6) WAIT 24 HOURS
7) Paint 1st coat of paint
8) 10 minutes later apply 2nd coat
9) WAIT 24 HOURS
10) Repeat 7-9 as desired.

Most important steps are the roughening and the mineral spirit wipe down, if the paint has trouble adhering to the base metal no number of coats will fix it...


Personally i don't like the look of bedliner on bumpers / body panels. My paint always comes out looking far better IMO.

I used 2 coats of Dupli color Self etching primer then Used Duplicolors roll on bed armor kit, it looks awesome!

Im all for using bed liner on the bumper but for the tow points, I would use regular paint. I feel like A tow strap against bed liner will wear apart or fray a lot quicker, just my thoughts.

i just spray my stuff with automotive primer and paint. pretty durable, and the semi gloss black matches semi gloss rustoleum pretty much exact so its easy for touchups

x2 on the bedliner...but if you're looking for a paint finish, roungh up the metal with some sand paper, put on some primer (we used clear), and rattle can it your color of choice. Me and my buddy repainted everything (except the tub) on his wrangler this way and up until it got stolen a few weeks ago, it took one hell of a beating on the trail for a $20 paint job...all of the bumpers and fenders didn't even barely scratch pushing a blazer off of aetna mountain...however, BEDLINER FTW

go with bedliner dont paint it. and roll on the bed liner dont get that spray crap. and i like the stuff called monstaliner its pretty good but not very cheap

Yea I saw a commercial for Monstaliner on speed channel, looks good I was wonderin if anybody used it

I got it on ebay too, the front and rear came as a set for under $600 including shipping!

I believe we have the same bumper, except i bought mine from a guy locally who bought it off ebay, but he kept the rear bumper...having picked it up today and inspecting it, that bumper is SOLID!! I have the prerunner style, and once my buddy welds on some light tabs, its getting bed lined, and after that, i wont have to worry about the school bus in my way in the mornings anymore LOL

I really like the bedliner look now. MY only thing is i dont like the look of the super chunky stuff. Any out there that aren't as chunky like that??

The kit that I got had a bag of the texture that you mixed in. You put as much as you want in it or leave it out all together.
