Default Widest Tires for a 99 Cherokee with different sized lifts

My wife wants to put bigger tires on our 99 Cherokee SE.
It has a 1" Lift on the front and a 3" on the rear. Currently it has 215/70-15 front and 235/70-15 rear.
We'd like to put something bigger on that won't rub and would be ok for both road and off-road, if possible.

Idk just how I got it.
It used to be a patrol vehicle for a Sheriff unit in Illinois.

How are you measuring the lift?

you can fit 235/75r15 all around right now

The measurements come from the shop a couple years ago. I brought it in for a oil change and the guy told me I had an odd lift on it.

Whoever gave you that info may have been mistaken. You may want to measure it yourself. From the photo it looks like it's sitting correctly front to rear. Looks stock height to me, maybe 1" over if anything.

Here's what you do. Go out and measure from the center of the hub on the rim to the very bottom of the fender flare, front and back. Come back here with your numbers and we'll see what lift you have.

Alrighty. Will do, once I find a tape measure.
My wifes moved everything in the house.

It's 18" all the way around.

yupp it looks like it....you only have an inch of lift. You'll fit 235/75r15 fine with no issue.

Well the front is half an inch so that is why the rear looks slightly higher. But based off your numbers, the rear only has an inch of lift, not 3 like you were told.

Here's hoping the transfer case hasn't been damaged by the mismatched tire sizes. I'd wager not. The sizes aren't SUPER different, the average Illinoisan doesn't use 4wd often especially the street tire types, and if it was used, those highway tires probably slipped enough to prevent any damage.

0.5" in the front and 1" in the rear. Looks great. 235/75r15 will be perfect for you. On and off road? Go specifically for LT235/75r15 load rating C. Get some quality AT tires unless you have a mud fetish.

After the new tires, I recommend checking which speedo gear you have and changing it if necessary. They're very inexpensive and extremely easy to change. Here's all the info you need http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoSpeedoGears.htm

I assume it is an automatic, so I then assume you have 3.55:1 gearing (be sure; I'm only making assumptions)....this is likely the part you'll want if a 34-toother isn't in there already.

If you're in NE IL, keep me in mind if you're ever in need of assistance as I'm not far in SE WI.
