When spring weather comes and I can spend some time in the jy without freezing I want to do swap my 27 spline shafts for the 29 spline shafts. Hopefully I can find one that has a LSD also. Who has done this swap and what do I need.

You need the axle shafts, carrier and spiders and NEW bearings and shims. Personally I wouldn't waste time searching for the LSD, I would put together $300 for a locker, at a later date.

This is very true. Complete JY axle cost $150 to $200, cost of conversion probaly $150 or so for the master install Kit and $500 or so to set-up the gears.

Well the reason I want the LSD is because it is my DD and I am getting a Aussie for my D30 for my birthday in May. And your right it would be easier to just change the whole axle out instead of swapping the shafts, carrier and bearings. I have a Harry's U Pull It by me and the one by me is supposed to be the biggest JY on the east coast. No part is more than 100 bucks. I just looked it up rear end 5 lug $49 no way in hell you can beat that. Thanks guys pushing me the right way.

I have a 3.55 gear ratio, so not to hard. But I was thinking since they only charge $50 for a rear end, I might as well try to find a xj with a 44 and pull both axles. That way I will also be upgrading to a 4.10 gear ratio.

Some did have 4.10 gears, 89 and older with the Off Road package. Some all though extremely rare, even had 4.56 gears on the 2.5L I4 with the AW-4 transmission.
