where does everyone keep there big spare tires?
so iv decided with the current setup i have now (6.5" long arms with no sway bars and 35" tires) that i dont want to ever run my spare on my roof, and i dont have the money nor do i want the added weight on my rear bumper if i dont have to have it there. thus being said where does eveyone keep there spare tires when running a tire size thats 35" or bigger, id like to keep it inside the jeep but i dont see this being possible unless i put my back seats down which i dont wanna do. do i have any choices besides a rear swing out or on the roof? any thoughts/experiences/ or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I don't mind having my back seats down and having my spare on them for now but roof to me would be the best option. I know someone has a kevin's off road spare tire carrier for the top in the for sale accessories if you are interested in going that route. I was going to buy it but I'm pushing for a roof rack now.

i know detours does, i was running one he made for me for a 32/33" tire but had to sell when i upgraded to 35s. like i said i dont have the funds to buy a custom made rear tire carrier.

Having the spare tire as far back as possible is ideal for better weight distribution. Xjs are nose heavy, as long as your leaf springs are up to the task a swing out tire carrier is awesome. Definately up there with my favorite mods.

see my issue is i have so many mods that have weighed my xj down that i know adding a swing out carrier plus the tire will add about 100 lbs in the rear and i dont want my lift sagging from all the weight. i know looks wise id love to have it in the rear.

no i just replaced my axles so $$$ is super tight atm, plus im running RC leafs so sag is inevitable just a matter of time. if anything though, i would look into getting shackle relocation brackets for the time being with a rear swing out and then get new leafs later down the road. right now just looking for least expensive methods till i can save up again for my next upgrade/mod

I just lean mine against the rear seat and rachet strap it down so it doesn't move

T&T could corner this market. A couple of their XJ's have a tire carrier that runs across the back seat, I think it bolts into the floor and the seat mounts...something like that. Anywho the wheel then stands straight up and down, so yea you can't see **** out the back and you don't have alot of cargo area left, but it gets the job done. No **** I think one of them had a 37" in it.
Maybe look into a local shop fabbing something like that up. Ill see if I can find a picture or something.

I carry my 31 spare on the roof rack with a couple bungie cords. When i am worried about theft, I have a nice 3/8 cable and a padlock I use. To steal the tire the thief would have to steal the entire roof rack.and unbolt it.
