Exclamation When should I swap my motor/ tranny out?

my 1990 jeep cherokee has 321090 miles on it. still runs great but i recently received an offer for a motor and tranny with only 93k miles on it. im just trying to get some opinions on if i should buy it or not.

Buy it, put new gaskets/rear main, and valve seals on it and store it for when your current work horse finally give up the ghost.

thats how im doing it.... 411k still running 100k engine in the garage just waiting..

was yur rig featured in 4wheel parts mag? i remember reading an article . rig looked like yours and said to have 400+ on the original engine.

That's how I would do it... So long as the engine wasn't out of a 00+ Cherokee. Swap it out when the current motor dies, rebuild the old motor, swap it out again when the new one goes. You'll have a Cherokee for life.

Amen to that. As long as its not from 1999-2001 I'd hold on to that gem and just wait it out. If you get a catastrophic failure at some point, you are loaded for bear. I know its a big hunk of iron to have sitting around your garage, but you will be happy with it some day.

I had a 2000 engine, cracked the head, built a 1994, best move I ever made.
