What would you mod? 1990 XJ Pioneer
Hey all. I introduced myself here already: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f59/ju...elf-xj-122631/
So my question basically is: what sort of modding is a good idea for me, a beginner, with the rig I have? I'm not one to show off or having anything very ostentacious, so I was thinking a 1.5'' lift with 31's one day would be just fine, with maybe one of those cool trail rig roof racks (whatever they're called) and a rear mount spare tire holder (with full size spare). Also one day I may swap the current front bumper for one with a winch, but otherwise I just want something low key, still mostly stock looking, but with the ability to handle most moderate desert and mountain trails in SoCal, AZ, NV, etc. I'm not looking for crazy articulation here, at least not yet.
Could someone maybe run down some ideas they have towards this end, with the above in mind? I read about some of the lift kits, but does anyone have specific do's and don'ts? Also do you guys usually do these lifts yourselves or is there an occasion where a shop could/should do a particular mod to make sure it's done safely, etc? I'm a newbie so yeah, I just have some beginner-type questions. Check my thread and my pictures to get an idea of what I have and I can answer questions.
Thanks.

well a good start would be a 3" lift and 31s. that way you dont have to trim anything. then look into hi-lift, gears, locker and winch. its the basic stuff. youll learn more about what you want as you go. A 3" lift is simple to install if you have basic mechanical skills.

Jeep34 is right, a 3" lift would be a perfect start and it will definitely handle most moderate trails like your looking for
