A better choice would be the DieHard deep cycle, or their marine battery if you have a winch, it has side terminals to dedicate to a high drain device.

I think they're the 34 series. If you are getting the yellow top because it's "cool". Don't, or just get a red top, it's a better starter battery anyway.
If you are getting one because you actually need a deep cycle battery, go with the Odyssey or DieHard. I'd recommend a Marine battery because they have neat little aux posts that you can attach your low-draw accessories to.

The yellow top is a combination start/deep cycle and has 750 CCA Cold Cranking Amps.
The red top is overkill with like 900 CCA.

Looking at the Optima site, it doesn't list XJs in their battery search until 1998. I could see why someone might be confused by that and might wonder if there was a reason it wasn't listed. Relying on Google isn't always the best idea, because Google doesn't produce 100% accurate information.
I would expect the same batteries Optima lists for the '98+ Cherokees to fit the older ones. The site lists the 8012-021 D34 as the correct Yellowtop for the '98+ Jeeps.
The 8014-045 D34/78 is the same battery with the side posts for accessories. That's the one SteveMongr posted above that he has in his '96.
There is also a D75/25 listed that has the side posts at the ends of the battery instead of the middle. Seems to me the middle posts would work better, but just in case you have a different setup:
Links are for reference only. You'll want to actually buy the battery from somewhere else, because the prices on the Optima site are not optimal.

if you went to the effort of looking it up and found it in seconds, why didn't you just post it instead of (or along with) your snarky comment?

^ Good info.
Keep in mind, the side posts on most all batteries are for low-drain, low-draw accessories.
Only the Marine batteries have full power side posts that a winch can be used on.

For those of you recommending the DieHard marine batteries, what size are you using? The only group 34 marine battery I see on their website is the Platinum, which is $250. The regular DieHard Deep Cycle marine batteries do not appear to be available in our size.
Also, looking at the Odyssey site, their version of that marine battery is $300. They list two regular automotive batteries for the Jeep, one for $240 and the other for $275, whereas the DieHard Platinum auto battery is $235. Where is this idea coming from that the Odyssey batteries are cheaper?
No wonder people get confused over the batteries. Comparatively, the Yellowtop is not sounding like that bad of a deal.

Go to where your actually going to buy the battery and look it up. I highly doubt your going to order a battery straight from the manufacturer. The prices at the store are way different.
