If you swap the axle skip the 8.8 and find something WITHOUT c-clips you'll thank yourself when you have to replace a broken shaft.
8.8 won't have near the braking problem as a d35.

No but they will break and when they do it's a pain dealing with c-clips.

why go to an 8.8 instead of just going to a Ford 9"?

An 8.8 isn't really all that much stronger than a Dana 44 and even so with a Chrysler 8.25 the Dana 30 is still the weak link in your drivetrain.

My opinion is stick with a D30/8.25 combo until you're ready to build 60s or 44/9"

here we go.....pretty soon we'll be back to full widths and rockwells.......lol
the ranger/explorer swap or just a 97+ cherokee 8.25 29 spline (i haven't broken mine yet) are the best easiest choices lug patterns are the same tracks are similar ,driveshafts ect.

Whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooa!!

The OP asked about spools and this means he needs to be convinced to replace his axle?

Come on folks, let's stick with the original topic and at least try to answer the question.

I cannot in good conscience give someone advice oh how/where to procure a spool for a Dana 35. We all know that more likely than not it is going to cause him a bunch of hassle.

My suggestion if he REALLY wants a spool would be to get a 29 spline Chrysler 8.25 and weld the spider gears together but not to the carrier and run that. It'd be cheaper and far more reliable than a spool for a Dana 35.
