as I understand it all I need is an output flange, proper drill bit/tap, and bolt, as well as a properly shortened and balanced XJ front drive shaft...
I here that the 1996+ np231 does not need a new seal? that you just cut down the splines, drill and tap and install your choice of fixed output flange
I have read people use the 63-64 corvette output yoke or a 3103-27CV and that it works quite well
anything I am missing?

You dont need a hack an tap for a 231 t.c. Only a 242t.c.Attachment 36155
OP your information looks to be good. Just make sure that you cut off the output shaft nice and even. keeping the engine on and then put it in 1-2 (make sure you block each wheel and e-brake on) and then cut nice and easy while the output is spinning it will give you a nice clean cut. then drill nice and level, tap the hole you drilled and then red locktight. then torque down.

what he is saying is why do a hack n tap on a 231 when there is a full sye available cheap enough where as a hack n tap is pretty much your only option for a 242.
the biggest benefit of an sye is for a shorter tail stock to get you a longer rear drive shaft for a better drive shaft angle.
sure you can do a hack n tap, but why when you can get a real sye kit for less than 200 bux.

Don't wish to create an issue with anyone , do a couple of you need to be as childish, I'm sure the moderators can set up a ROMPER ROOM for the children. I'll make sure to explain what I mean better next time.( Issue on the hack and tap )

I would check out iron rock offroad they have a hack and tap kit complete with driveshaft for $199 plus shipping, but if your set on doing it all yourself that corvete yolk sounds like the right one, plus it will be cool letting your motor do most of the cutting work, if that is how you wanna do it. Also iron rock offroad has detailed install instructions you might want to give a once over either way you go.
