Unfortunately, his time machine is broken.
First thing's first... Dry everything out. Especially the carpet. Then get back to me.

Unplug all the plugs under the hood. Did your fuse box and ecu get soaked? Probably unplug the ecu and take out the fuses as well. Disconnect the battery of course. Take off the distributor cap. Keep the jeep in a nice dry and warm place (attached garage?) with the windows down. It's gonna take at least 2 days to really dry out. After 2 days, get a big tube of dielectric grease and put some in all the plugs before you reconnect everything. Then try to start it. The dielectric grease will also help keep everything sealed in future instances.
The worst part about all this is it sounds like this was a mud hole. Water by itself (completely pure water, purer then can ever be found) does not conduct electricity. It is the minerals the water carries that conducts. Of course, the dirtier the water the easier it conducts. Making sure all the dirt, mud, and grime is out of those connections is one of the most important parts. Before you put dielectric grease in there, spray the connections down with some good contact cleaner.
