Welded front diff
I did some reading somewhere on the forum and found out that 1990-1992 Xj's had a front diff disconnect when not in 4wd so you could weld the front diff and be locked when you switch to 4wd.
Just wanted to be sure before doing irreversible mods to my axle.
I have a 1990 Cherokee with a Dana 30

That is true, Not all of them had it though. Make sure you do if you plan on doing this. Also make sure you plan on never driving it on the street in 4wd, in the winter or anything, it would be very hard to control in the winter while street driving on corners and making turns in 4wd.
If you have the vaccuum disco axle, you will see a housing on the passenger side axle tube with some vac lines going to it, your shift fork and actuator are in there.
I wouldnt weld it unless it was an offroad only jeep. just my opinion.

I wouldn't even weld it if it's a wheeling only jeep, it will drive awful in 4x4. Locker or leave it open IMO.
I find with a locked rear I would only really want my front locked maybe 5% of the situations I'm in when I wheel. (Shallow mud, deep mud, dunes, trail riding) With appropriate tires you don't need the front locked unless you're crawling rocks or getting high-centered on big logs doing some hardcore trails. I've been stuck a few times where a locked front would've probably made it but for the $$ meh...

don't do it man. save $$$ for a selectable, and save yourself a migraine. before all that though, get a hp non disco front. they're a little tougher.
i have a disco front, and the only thing i wanna do is trash it.
