Weird Overheating Issues, RHD
Hey Y'all
Only chime in if you have a RHD Box Cherokee or a re-model ( 97-01). The Bitter half runs a postal route in central Florida. Our summer temps with heat index rise above 105*F heat index ++++. Have replaced the radiator with a Red Chinese made 4 row, replaced the fan clutch with a Derale 14"two-speed electric unit set on high speed through a Flex-lite controller box with external probe positioned on the hot side of the radiator 2 rows down from the top,on temp set to 160*F. Tried a Flowcooler water pump with the O.E.replacement radiator and had dismal results. Overheated and continued to run warm/hot. Warm is to the center line of the o.e. gauge, Hot is to the 3/4 scale mark before the red line. Crankcase oil is still brown, no chocolate milk-shake on the dip-stick. BTW, Red Chinese radiator was in LHD configuration, made adjustments as needed, old school style.Don't know what happened to the font. Thanks in advanced!

UPDATE!, well better late than never.
Replaced the Red Chinese 4 row with an o.e. 2 row RHD unit, re-configured trans cooling lines to stock, replaced Flowcooler pump with standard water pump, replaced 14" Derale fan with a 16" unit and further modified the shroud to fit. Filled and purged the cooling system and tested. Still running better than 1/2 scale on the gauge but not getting near the red zone. Had previously spent $20 on a reverse poppet 160* thermostat when installing the Flowcooler pump to ensure trouble free operation and a fail safe if it failed. Gut told me to replace the thermostat again. Removed and tested in a pot of water on the stove with a candy thermometer. Unit partially opened at 180*, continued to heat the water to a full boil without the thermostat opening further. Replaced the thermostat with a $5 160* standard unit and gasket, filled and purged again and tested.
. You would think if you spent good money on a quality part, it would last and perform better than an average part. NOT THIS TIME! Temp gauge now fluctuates from 1 needles' width above the 1/4 hash ( about 180*) to 1 needles' width above 1/2 hash ( about 210*) during summer stop-and-go mail delivery.
