Wanting a simple 44 front end swap into a '97 XJ.

TJ and XJ dana 30 should be identical, including steering. If you're trying to use the TJ control arms I'm not sure if those are the same length as XJ but they will bolt on. drive shaft is direct bolt on, once again length could be different
do you know where your friend got his rear dana 44? I don't think those ever came factory in TJ

the D30 in the TJ will bolt into an XJ, same dimensions, the TJ's were all low pinion, the XJ was all high pinion until '00.
TJ rubicons had a D44 rear, some regular TJ's had a 44 rear, and all TJU(LJ) had a D44 rear.

Part of the push for doing a 44 front was for strength and because we thought it would need 4.88 or 5.13 gear. After a little checking I realized that 4.56 will do fine so I'll probably suggest he keep his 30 and spend his money on a good axle upgrade and maybe truss it.
