vibrations. HELP!
i just put a 3 inch RC lift on my 1998 xj and i was expecting vibrations and i got them. I'm 17 and this is my first build so idk really what to do. between 30 and 40 miles per hour i get a lot of vibrations and when i let off the gas the rear end makes a weird clicking noise and vibrates really loud. what can i do? thanks.

you are gonna want to get your front end aligned either with a tape measure or take it to a shop and you should check your u-joint on the drive shafts, you could also need a t-case drop if you don't have one, though it was my understanding that you didn't need one with 3" of lift

get a transfer case drop kit if you dont do a whole lot of wheeling. otherwise i would recomend doing a slip yolk eliminator kit and new rear drive shaft.
he problem is that the stock rear shaft only has two u joints so they can not handle the load that you are putting on them by increasing the angles because of the lift. so if you get a sye and drive shaft kit you will be able to run a double cardan drive shaft in the rear and you will be smooth as butter.
SYE&drive shaft KIT
TCASE DROP KIT
you should be fine with the tcase drop kit. and it is a lot cheaper and easier to install. but later on down the road dont be scared to tackle the SYE. i did it in my garage with simple hand tools in a few hours and i am no mechanic by all means

my 99 needed a SYE/tcase drop at 3" of lift by the way.
it seams like the 96 and older guys can get away with it. they changed the design of the tailhousing of the np231 in 97

I have a 3" lift in my 99 with a standard transmission and it goes as smooth as new. Check and see if any of the u joints or other suspension parts are worn.

when i had 3" of lift, all i needed was 3 degree shims to get rid of my drive line vibrations.
so wither a t case drop kit, or shims. shims take more time to install. make sure they are 3 degrees, no bigger.
