A VERY el cheapo jeep xj,,, some questions
I have done a bunch of searching and have found SOME answers to my questions. And most of them have to do with using NON JEEP parts to "upgrade"
1, What 4" dropped pitman arm can be used in substitution for a Jeep branded one?
I did see at this thread
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/bud...herokee-58797/
That a LOT of other parts can be used to "cheapen" a build.
I saw ford truck shocks,,, brakelines,, Durango steering boxes, Tbird coils,,, corvette yokes for a DIY SYE.. And MANY MORE parts that can be used instead of spending hard earned money on BRANDED PARTS.
MAN,,,,, I read a LOT before registering. And I just wanna do this one as inexpensively as possible for a change.
SO please feel free to add-delete-modify or whatever needs done to make the info as user friendly as possible.
PLEASE give applications and part numbers,,, donor vehicle info too (model/year/trim package). That way we are not rehashing the same ole stuff around
And oh yea,,, GREAT SITE owners/admins.
Nicely thought out and well monitored

Welcome to CF!
Cut it in half and weld a 4" pipe with some sleeves to overlap the stock portion.
Can't get any cheaper than that!
Not sure what other j/y parts would fit for 4" drop though. :/

I'm running stock pitman with roughly 6" with no issues as well. That being said a pitman off of a 77-79 F-150 and 78-79 Bronco will fit onto the splines of the Cherokee and Durango steering box. That is the only one I've tried in person, on a different truck that is. It is longer from hole to hole so it will affect how many turns from lock to lock there are as well as make the steering slightly harder due to the loss of some leverage.

I run a ZJ pitman arm for 1" drop, only did that because I wanted less angle on the track bar and wanted the track bar angle to match the steering angles...
but 4" drop would be asking for stuff to break
