Upper shock bolts
So the very last thing I have to do on my lift is install the rear shocks. The stock ones are out, all 4 bolt heads are broken off. I tried pounding out the bolts by hitting them with a punch and hammer, and they didn't budge. We tried the tap and extract method, and we couldn't even make a dent in the bolts. I was gonna drill a bigger hole (enough to take the threads out of the nut) and stick another nut with a lock washer on the factory nut, and put a bolt up through the bottom (like the factory style). I can weld, and don't wanna cut up my floor boards. Is there anything else I can do?

On many XJ's I've hammered the weld nuts up and out of the body. Then dropped bolts (5/16"x1") down thru the holes with washers and used nuts to hold the shocks. a small pencil magnet helps, especially on the driver side.
I have the luxury of an air hammer to help me out, but with a BFH and some pliers you should be successful!
Good Luck

^this.
You should do the swaybar bracket upgrade while you're in there. Twist a small piece of wire around the threads, fish it threw the hole and wa-la. Don't forget a washer on the bolt and a lock washer for the nut. You can even get a wrench up there too.

Check out my leaf tutorial & shocks tutorial. I think my way of feeding new bolts through is probably 100 times easier and faster than most Ive seen here (lynskynbnd has it right too though).
