Ok so Im in the middle of upgrading. Since my radiator was in good shape I went with The dakota filler and just an over flow tank. I was just going to plumb the T in the heater lines together. But then I got to thinking why not just run new heater hose out of the T-stat to the core. But I noticed a small valve in the metal line going to the heater core. Any idea on what purpose that valve serves and If I can eliminate it without any problems?

Ok after some more digging on the Big ol WWW I found that it is the heater control valve. And it seems that it is not needed. So I will be deleting it. One less thing to worry about not functioning.
