Two questions one thread hope that's ok...
Does anyone know of a company that makes an alternator upgrade kit for my 99xj? The only extra amps I'm pulling from my jeep so far is an 8k lbs smitty built winch and it's not happy when I put a heavy load on it. I am going to be adding light bars and other accessories hopefully in the near future and for see a problem here with the stock alternator.
Second, has anyone or does any know if they make a locking style over head center console for the xjs? I've looked all over the web and found tons for the wranglers and cjs but nothing for xjs. |
Popular upgrade is to do a Durango 136 Amp alternator swap. Full write up here: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/19...ctures-179443/

You should absolutely upgrade your wires along with the alternator. John Kelley from Kelley's works in progress sells heavy duty wiring kits that are perfect. I haven't heard or seen from him on the forums for awhile though.. His website is kelleyswip.com and his username is "5-90" on several forums. I bought the 4awg wire kit which has a 150a fuse on it. If you desire more than a 136a alternator you can do 1awg wire which has a 200a fuse and use a 160a Durango alternator. That would be the exact same process as the 136a, just more expensive. Also, most people will say that 4awg is plenty for 160a but I think the problem comes from not being able to find a fuse that is larger than 150 but smaller than 200. So in short, a 136a alternator from a 1999 Durango with a 5.2 motor will work with minor modifications, and you should absolutely upgrade your wiring also. |

I used a Durango starter on mine and had it custom rewound for a total of 160 amps (157 really lol), I also use Kellys wiring setup on mine.

And you might want to think about adding a 2nd battery also.

Have you run one of those. I was looking at them earlier and going to post a thread asking about them.
Don't know much more than that about it. Sorry. |
