Default Twin stick 231 tcase?

Who here could appreciate a twin stick'd 231j tcase? The intent would be 1 shifts 2wd/4wd and then the other shifts high/low range.

Well aware of the 2low kit but I find the 4 position mode fork to still be clunky especially for 4-low as it is. Adding another detent position to the mode fork-shortenting the gaps to squeeze 2 low into the end - idk.

Definitely feel 2 levers could mitigate covering 5 positions in total

It would be pretty cool, but I think for most people, like me, it's too big of a project for it to be worth it.
now a 231/231 doubler would be well worth the trouble and would get the same result as well as the option for a ≈7.3 low low.

It would be pretty sweet to have and I would love to fallow a build thread for it.

Soo let's start with this...
Making duplicates of the single shift fork the 231 uses. It performs 2 jobs at once shifting the 2wd/4wd fork and high/low range fork.

Really just mapping out where the forks are positioned for each function was the easy part. Applying how *without modifying the tcase housing* I'm gonna get 2 forks to work independently through the one hole currently in the case is proving to be the tricky part.

Per some advice from a machinist buddy of mine, im gonna explore proof of concept in 3D printed parts from another source before I start sharing any key progress. Call me shy but I'd rather not have such a unique idea ripped off prematurely

Fork templates out of cardboard and crudely made everything else.

I need to map out the fork templates for Cad and then it's off to 3D print

The useless twin stick progress.

Now in 3d print just to handle and in a way - proof of concept before full metal version.

Next I need to dig one of the spare cases out of the shed to trial these parts.

By no means do I expect them to hold up *plastic shifting metal components* but this should atleast help me proove/disproove the function overall

Looking forward to seeing the finished product. However If I was doing it I would start with a fully geared case instead of a chain drive. Just saying

Ideally yes, a geared case would be the way to go but why not try and make something new.

Not sure if he has thought about it, but if he could achieve a positive shift out from 4WD instead of relying on a spring in the case, that would in itself be a great improvement

My intent is to make 2wd low range accessible.

While I'm well aware of the teralow fork offered by teraflex. I see a unique use out of isolating the 2 available functions in the factory 231 tcase.

Yes what I'm doing is kinda complicating an already solved task. However i enjoy the challenge of re-inventing this wheel to a small degree.

Gotta love the hatred for calling it twin stick when it's clearly not the intended function of how we all mostly treat the term.

Soo to be clear. I'm trying to utilize 2wd/4wd on one shift lever and then utilize high range/low range on the other
