Default Trouble with a cracking or popping sound when in 4WD

Hey guys recently I had my Jeep on the beach and I noticed as I was headed down the beach their was a significant cracking or popping sound coming from the front end while turning. Any one have an idea what may be causing this? At first I thought maybe wheel bearings but it virtually goes away in 2wd so I began thinking u joints or cv's. I have noticed when sitting still or making a slow tight turn in parking lots while in 2wd their is one good loud pop. I have also experienced the dreaded "death wobble" recently and I don't know if that has anything additional to do with the cause of the problem or is a whole extra can of worms. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. It's a 99 XJ with 188k with 31s and a 4.5 inch lift that I have beaten the #?*! out of over a span of about 10 years and she keeps on coming back for more. Just want to know if any one has some suggestions or things to look for before I start throwing parts at it. Thank you for any help ahead of time.

From my experience front end "popping" is a lot of times play in the bushings. Check the control arm bushings out.
