Default Transfer Case Issues

I have an 87 Xj with a 4.0 AW4 tranny and np242 transfer case. I rebuilt a 4.0 out of a 1990 with a AW4 tranny and np231 transfer case. I am in the process of swapping them out. the np242 is an electric activated transfer case where the np231 is vacume controlled. I was hoping to use the np 231. So a couple questions....

1. Do they make an adapter, or can a person make the np231 with vacume controls work in the 87 that was designed for electric np242?

2. Or would i be better off to just use the np 242 so it will go right back in with no mods?

Planning a 4 1/2" long arm lift, sye for transfer case, and building the jeep for the rubicon trail. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

Both the 231 and 242 are actuated with a mechanical linkage. The only electric connections on either one should be for the dash light.

You'll have to swap the floor shifters and I think the electrical connections are different, so you'll either have to cut/splice the harnesses or make an adapter.

If you think that's too much work and not worth it, then you better pick a new hobby before you get in too deep. Good luck!!
