Default Transfer case drop kit

Im gonna install my transfer case drop kit tonight after work and I was just wondering what the best way to get the studs out is? Does it need to go un and through the frame or does it thread down? Would I be spinning it to the left or is it reverse threaded? Also does it sound like a good idea to weld a nut on them to break the stud loose? any other helpful advise? Thanks for the help.

There are 2 studs with nuts and 2 bolts. The bolts..... well they are just bolts I had to PB them and heat them up to get them out, but they came out pretty well.

As far as the studs go, I took the nuts off, dropped the TC on jack stands to support it, heated up the area around the studs and broke them loose with vice grips. They will work to get the studs out. they come out the same way they would a regular bolt... lefty loosy.

You could weld a nut if you wanted to, but thats alot of crap to go through for these studs. You could double nut it, put one on, then the other and loosen the first against the second, creating a "bolt".

To double nut it do I twist the one closer to the frame or the bottom one?

basically if you get one nut off one side, put it on the other side, thread it so its on all the threads of the stud. Then what you would is loosen the top nut as you normally would to take it off, this will lock it against the other nut and then would be loosening the stud. once you get that one out, put the nuts back on the other side and do the same. use heat though all around the base of the stud if you can, this will help get it loose easier.

Just take one of the old bolts with you to buy the new longer ones and match up the size and threads. Make sure you locktight them when you install the long bolts. I used a lock washer too.

I would but I don't want to drive the jeep at all missing even one of the bolts. It will be driven but only a few miles. The place I'm getting the bolts from isn't open on weekends. I will probably end up removing one though. Having a hard time finding the size. I thought I subscribed to a thread with the exact size I needed but now can't find it. O well. Thanks.

Go to autozone, they have a metric stud remover tool. Worked great for me...

Use a little pipe wrench!! By far the easiest way to get them out!

The easiest way to get the studs out is to double nut them as described before. Doesn't damage the stud for the rare instance where you might want to use it again.
