my gauge is on the return line from the trans cooler, is that the temp i should go by?

I also have my trans temp on the return line . In town or working it hard it reads between 150-165. With cold weather it stays around 100-125. I also changed my tranny cooler to one off a Ford explorer.

I would think you would want the gauge on the other side coming out of the transmission. That would give you the actual transmission temperature.

Putting it on the return only tells you how cool it is going into the trans, I would be more interested on the temp coming out of the trans.

True but the fluids last stop is the torque converter and it is made to make alot of heat and that gives a bad reading for the gauge (what I was told)...

Indeed. Same as why the water temp sensor is next to the thermostat which is were water comes out of the block.

But I did read the JP article, I guess it is good to see whats running into the trans to make sure its being fed properly but It would also be nice to know what its spitting out. I guess its a mood point and just a matter of what you prefer if you only plan to run one temp gauge.

But my question is what were they measuring when they got 165(the preferd temp) at Jp the pan, the return, or leaving the trans...
