Default Tranny line leaking... Room for mods?

Hey all.
turns out the trans line to the radiator, the lower one, is leaking. If im going to have to replace this whole line, would I be ahead to just get a tranny cooler and install it at the same time?

Is there a particular one i should look for in the junkyard, or ones to avoid?

I believe the ZJ cooler is a common swap. I forget which line the lower line is. You want to cut the cooler into the return line, after the stock cooler. While you are messing with the transmission lines is a great time to hit it all in one swoop. Add a cooler, add a gauge, and flush the fluid depending on age. There is a flush method that changes all of the fluid in one sitting, rather than the common practice of draining pan and refilling multiple times after running for a while. The flush method I found on this site involves using the transmission to pump the fluid out as you add more. Search the site for more details on it.

Well well, i found two options but im still not sure...

First up is from a 98, i thought it was, ZJ? This looks like what i expect a trans cooler to look like.

Here also is what would appear to be one from an older (95, maybe?) ZJ. If any of you have heard of "The Wilds" in ohio, it must have come from there because it has the logo on the doors. Anyway, this one, if it is a trans cooler, is pretty big, but also rough looking.

Which one is the proper ZJ cooler?

The lower line is the supply line and the upper line is your return. I just installed a trans cooler. I used a flex-a-lite trans cooler 3/8 fittings

I used this write-up.

It took me all of about 30 min start to finish. Granted I already had the header panel and everything off already for replacing the radiator.

I've heard of that, iirf you just run the supply line into a pan, and then put a funnel in the return line, and just add in the return until it comes out clean from the supply line. sounds simple enough....

doesn't sound so bad. especiallly as the weather turns nicer before it gets too hot. If somethings broke, may as well upgrade!

also, the subject in the second picture above, with the secondary... thing, running the length of the radiator... whatever this is, the parts XJ at the neighbor's has something like this. If its worth picking up, its laying inside the cargo area

Run the output line from transmission (supply to cooler, hot line, whatever term you like) and add fluid to the transmission pan via the dipstick tube. The return line from the cooler just dumps into the pan, no need to try and get a funnel into the return line. It is easiest to accomplish this method with 2-3 people. One to man the ignition key, one to man the bucket the output line is dumping in, one to add new fluid to transmission. I got it done with 2 people, my father and I.

i just wanted to apologize for my ignorance for not realizing wtf an A/C condenser looks like in the pictures above.

Bad Idea, that sounds pretty doable. When i get to fix this issue i may as well do that.
