Track Bar Ball Joint fix needed
On my 96 cherokee something goes clunk in the night (well all the time). When I go over bumps, pot holes, uneven road or well basically anything that moves my front suspension it makes a clunk/pop noise. Also when I'm driving down the highway my wheel will pull to the left. At first I thought it might be an alignment but then for no reason or over a tiny bump the wheel will pull to the right. I have the adjustable track bar with the ball joint on the end which is loose, would this cause the problem?
Also when driving over say like a bridge when its uneven my jeep shifts from left to right pretty bad. Thinkin thats gotta be the track bar. Can I just buy the ball joint end to replace or do I need to buy the whole dang thing? Any suggestions would be great!!!

the track bar centers the axle under the vehicle. there shouldn't be anything in the tie rod/drag link/track bar category that's "loose" as you describe it. Even if that's not the culpit, I would address it. The OE track bar has a non-serviceable ball stud. If you have an adjustable (maufacturer?) track bar, then you should be able to get just that part of the track bar assembly. I would also check your ball joints, and the track bar and drag link (pitman arm to passenger knuckle) should be parallel to avoid bumpsteer

Thanks for the info. I do have an adjustable track bar but I have been unable to find just the ball joint end that screws into the track bar and up to the frame. I would rather buy the end piece and not spend the $120+ for another one. Any idea what site would sell them?

I'm not sure what brand track bar you have, but my Clayton has a Johnny Joint from Currie. They might have a Johnny Joint that has the thread size you need. LH or RH threads available. Plus they're serviceable. Instead of having a ball stud style with a nut on top, use a Johnny Joint with a grade 8 bolt. Done. http://www.currieenterprises.com/ces...nnyjoints.aspx

So the johnny joint is a better replacement for the heim joint? and it will bolt right up to the bracket with no mod needed?

In most cases it will work if you can get the right thread pattern. It is a better option than the hein joint but I would save to get a double shear and delete the problem.

I purchased mine from Rough Country and if you call them, they can give you the part number for the replacement ball joint itself. When I got mine, they mentioned that it was a moog part number.
