I towed my 94 cherokee with my stock 99. Braking sucked big time. Needed double the stopping distance. No problem with power. I left the trans in 3 and was going 50-55mph no problem for an hour. I would never tow like that in a hilly area. It was all flat where I was at.
Try asking for someones help in your local section of the forum. If you offer to pay for lunch, gas and possibly even beer I'm sure you can get a guy with a truck and trailer to help you out on a Saturday!

U haul car doll straps will not first 31s when I was towing mine home the straps didn't fit. (Michigan uhaul if that makes a difference) as far as transportation I just put the t case in natural and the tranny in Park. It worked for a couple hundred miles in my case. Don't worry about pulling the driveshaft. But if you want to it only takes 5 minutes. Your call..

I had the same problem with the straps being to short. I had to wrap the straps around the arm for the steering spindle.Originally Posted by Low money and high dreams

Wow that was a lot more replies than I was expecting, lol
We ended up just using my dad's Tahoe and a two track flat car trailer from uhaul. Straps fit on the 31x10.5s just fine, although towing the nissan on the way there one of them popped off... We ended up not taking the roller (a 2wd 98 sport) because it had been wrecked in the front and there was a week's worth of cutting/welding to fix the unibody, no glass, front seats, engine, trans, etc. Probably would have been just fine towing it, my front sway bar has brand new bushings and links and I know how to leave room in front of me. But oh well.
All of that is sort of a moot point now, since the trade hinged on my ability to register it and smog it. The cat and flowmaster 44 he threw in (he had it un-corked and didn't say anything till I got there, after towing a car for 2 and a half hours) were junk, cut the remnants of the downpipe off and looked in and the cat is destroyed. Not passing smog like that. So this Saturday I guess we're heading on back down to the u-haul to grab another car trailer. But he is giving me the 8.25" off of the 98 for my troubles. So that's good. Spent about 100 bucks in gas each way so I still think he got the better end of the deal....
The interesting thing about that XJ is it was the Briarwood trim level, but it didn't have the old folk's home wallpaper on the side of it. Probably just repainted it but it was weird because most people I see with those things keep them stock looking. It did have those sweet honeycomb wheels and a set of LED pods wired to the low-beams, but that thing was tired. Also, when I went to start it for the second time I accidentally used the key from my 99.... and it worked..... haha
Anyone trying to sell an MJ?
