31s are a great size for the XJ.

If possible, a 7" rim with 5-1/4" backspacing would work great with a 31" tire

Regearing should be considered. tire size changes will change the effective gearing. the 4.1 gear is considered right for a 30 inch tire. 33 inch should get the 4.56 gear, and so forth. Do your research on this. take into account if future plans include larger yet tire sizes, you only should want to regear once. plan ahead.

^^^ Good points. Also, the "will it fit?" question really depends if you're talking street-only driving (including dirt/gravel roads), or if you're talking about flexing it out off-road with the sway bars disconnected.

recently got my cherokee XJ. It has a 1.5 inch lift on it and I am pretty certain that i'm currently running 30's. no scraping or rubbing whatsoever, not even when turning hard. want to upgrade to something bigger, what is within reason?
