SYE ordered... What else is needed?
Use a cut off wheel and you can cut the cap off of the end of the driveline. shorten it if its too long or add to it. Youll have to go get the right diameter pipe to fit inside which is easy. To brace if you are adding. A chop saw will make fast work of it. Something to think about. Its just a pipe (balanced though...) with caps on each . Its good to know if you end up with the wrong size. I did mine in 30 min or less
I also wouldn't never recommend extending a driveshaft by sleeving under another piece of tube. If u are gonna extend a driveshaft, do it properly and use new tube of correct length.

Surprised no one has said it yet. Put the sye in and see if your front driveshaft works in the rear and if it does great leave it and buy a new front. If it doesn't fit then drive around in 4 hi making it front wheel drive. Then find a driveshaft that will fit. I think I'm somewhere between 4 and 6 inches in the rear with an 8.25 running a zj shaft.

Here is a list my friend. Hope this can help you

Here is a chart that lists all the drive shaft length for the xjs and zjs. You WILL need a longer one! I went with one of the longest ones available...33"... And I still only have about 2" of slip left in the driveshaft. I found one on eBay for $30 and repainted it and put new u joints in it. For a grand total of $250 for a full SYE and DriveShaft! And it has given me nothing but smiles!!!!

I definitely have the 231. The gear selectors are completely different. Mine doesn't have the option for 4 full time like the 242 does. I only have 2wd-4H-N-4L
As for measuring -- I know that's the correct way to do it but I need a replacement shaft ASAP bc I plow with my jeep and need 4WD if it snows. Maybe I should wait til after winter to install this thing

from what i'm finding the difference from an 8.25 to a d35 is an inch...so if anyone knows the loss in length going to the sye?? add in the 3" lift (so prob another inch in length??)
I would like to buy both shafts and see what works but unfortunately I can't find a ZJ rear shaft for under $100 and I found a XJ front for $50...
Best course of action is going to be to measure... Can't beat measurements.
After SYE is install, I need to measure end of yoke to end of yoke? Let's say it's 32". Would I be better buying a shaft that's 30" compressed or 32" compressed? How far does the slip yoke in the driveshaft compress and extend?
Also, how much spline engagement is necessary on the pinion?

Yeah the driveshaft shop here wants $150 to lengthen, strengthen and balance one for me if I go that route. Then I wouldn't have to worry about the condition of a used shaft. But cheaper would definitely be to buy one the right length off an XJ/ZJ right off the bat and rebuild the joints
