SYE Before of After Lift 6.5" lift?
I have a 1988 jeep cherokee with np242 transfer case and i want to lift it 6.5" should i do the SYE or the lift first?
I am probably going to go with the Rough Country 6.5" X-series Long Arm Suspension and it says i should get an SYE along with it, but they don't sell and SYE for np242. I'm also aware that i have to do a Hack n tap for the np242.
I saw that tom woods does the Hack n Tap for you, and you just have to send them your shaft from the transfer case. Has anyone tried this? is it easy to install?

Does anyone know how hard it would be to install the RC 6.5" lift?
and will it be possible to drive it with the lift without an SYE( for a few days only )

installing a lift is by no means a difficult job, however if you are not overly mechanical than it could be a disaster.
its not going to hurt to drive it for a few days with the lift but at 6.5" your going to be stretching that rear shaft and that slip yoke pretty close to its limits but should be fine for street driving, better off to pick up a front drive shaft and do the SYE when you do the lift and run the front shaft in the rear

I'm thinking about OP question as well....
I have enough $ for any SYE (but a $ shy for a lift kit) and was wondering if i can install SYE with stock DS without any lift .

And you need a fair amount of patience and persistance if one or two snap rings give you trouble. They can be pains in the ****, or you could just get lucky first try.

You MUST install the SYE first/at the same time as the lift if you plan on driving it, and use a stock front driveshaft as a rear ds temporarily till you get one the correct length. A stock rear DS with the slip yoke will not be long enough for a 6.5" lift, and will bind like a **** (if it doesn't fall out first).
Try to get the longest front shaft possible. You'll find the longer ones in ZJ Grand Cherokees. Here's a great list to help you out:
