SYE?
Do I need an SYE and/or something other than my stock drive shafts for a 3" lift? I'd prefer not using a TC drop, if that makes a difference.

It depends. Most XJ's at 3inches don't need it. But for me, I have the NP242 Transfer case and the C8.25 axle. Both are a tad longer, so the driveshaft was at more of a severe angle than guys who had NP231 and D35 axle(most jeeps). Mine vibrated pretty bad before I did the TC drop.
But most likely, you won't need a SYE or anything like that for 3". Should be fine.

Cool, thanks for the info. I plan on installing an SYE eventually but the lift, wheels and tires will pretty much tap me. I've reserved enough for a post lift alignment in case my attempt to do it myself fails but that's about all I can afford at the moment.

Pre-97 in most cases is fine up to 4" without an SYE and typically won't have issues from not having one. 97+ is pretty hit or miss from 3" and up. Plan on needing it and be glad you have the extra money if you don't.
