Swapping 8.25 for xj D44

Swapping 8.25 for xj D44
Hey guys, I'm picking up a XJ d44 tonight. After i run though it and possibly install a disk brake kit and maybe a LSD I'll slap it in. Do i need a different DS? Will the trac lock oem LSD bolt right into an open 44? Is it worth slapping in some chromoly shafts while im at it? Its going into my 2000 XJ with just a budget boost. Plans for long arm 4.5 and 35s later on down the road hence the upgrade. Apparently the d44 has 3.54 gears in it. Will that work with my 3.55 front d30?

honestly I dont think chromoly shafts are worth it to run 35's. If you want the extra peace of mind fine but the stock D44 shafts are up to it

What were you looking for in a 44 that isn't offered for the 8.25?
Also, I never knew the 8.25 has slightly larger tubes than an xj 44.

i've been running my stock 44 locked on 36x13.5 bias on beadlocks for 10 years. never twisted, bent or broke a shaft.
i still think the 44 is stronger than the 8.25, and has more following hence more support.
and no, the lsd won't go from an 8.25 to the 44. just get a lockright.

Swapping a good 8.25 for a 44 is the definition of wasting your time (IMO). Now swapping for a ford 8.8 is a different story.

For what you intend the swap wouldn't be worthwhile the D44 isn't all that much stronger than a Chy 8.25. As for support the 8.25 seems to gain a little more as time goes on, there are quite a few members here with the 8.25 running 35's, 36's and a few 37" tires and a ton of 33's .
