I recently purchased a chopped 1991 XJ and am completely a newb. The owner before me had heavily modified the jeep and I don't know what all was done to it. I was wondering if anyone could help me identify what lift is on this rig? I believe it is a rough country 6.5" but have no clue. The drive train is angled. Also there is a sag to the rear drivers side and I think the leaf may have to be replaced. The jeep is sitting on 33" radial tires. I think the tie bar is also bent on the passenger side. The axle in the rear is a locked dana 35c. I'm not sure how it was locked. If anyone has any information on what was done to this rig it would be greatly appreciated.

regardless...
that rear setup is pretty out of sorts. Looks like an AAL, but in the wrong location on the spring pack. The block...it could've been done better overall. I am not real sure about it being a 6.5" lift of any kind, especially since the fenders are cut. Seeing as how the whole rig looks pretty halfassed...I would be leaning towards the rear dif being welded. I cant really say much about the front end, other than that I am not real sure what I see...how much do those bumpers weigh?

The rear leafs look pretty worn.
The one that is out of place is no big deal. Those leafs are unstrapped for better flex. Just knock it back in place.
Looks like 3" blocks in the back and 3" coil spacers in front.
Unless a leaf is broken just run it.
If you want to have better suspension just replace everything. It does not matter what lift its currently at. Its what you want.
Sad thing is new suspension is not going to work better. LOL.
But in the long run you probably will be better off.

That add a leaf is in the wrong place. Sorry. And the stock leaf pack is not unstrapped.
You have a Dana 35 rear. Its OK for your current tires.
Just remove the entire sway bar assembly. Better than having it dangle like that.
All depends on what you plan for this jeep. If its just a fool around jeep. Just stack the leafs correctly. Tighten the nuts and bolts and run it.

it's not heavily modified, it's heavily hacked. Stock control arms, spacers and blocks, no sway bar links. The chop looks decent enough. But there's really not much going on there.
Good deal.
On the leafs you need to unstrap the upper pack. See the clamps that hold several of the leafs together? Remove the clamps.
Remove the u-bolts holding the leafs all together.
Leafs go in order of length. Smallest on bottom, which is actually the block. The the small leaf, next larger, etc....
Once they are stacked right, install the u bolts and tighten. Job done. No need to remove the leaf pack at all. You may have to remove the lower shock bolt though to free up some room.
On the sway bars. Just remove the whole set up. There is no need for the sway bar.

Wow. Yea, I'd swap those leaf packs. Could be a 4-4.5" lift with that AAL and block in the rear. Front I have no idea. I bet if you took those bumpers off you go up to a 6.5" lift though....
First things first, what do you want to be able to do? Are you a mud, rock or trails guy?
Can you get a better picture of the Tie Rod?
I would think about at least getting some Lower Control arm drop brackets, if not all new lowers.
Chop looks decent though and for the price you paid, that's not bad. You could buy a decent long arm kit, and have a pretty capable chopped XJ and only be in it another $1200.

Hum........I do like the chop on it, it seems to be the best part. If the engine/trans/transfer case are all good the D-35 can be swapped to a chry 8.25 or D-44. I guess the front is a D-30 and it will work fine for most uses. Just add a good long arm kit and decent bumpers you will have a nice trail rig.
