It only makes 240/280. Barely an improvement over the 4.0L for the money. You'll have a ton of work a head of you too.
Better off stroking the 4.0L and you'll make even more power then the supercharged 3.8.
Or drop a V8 in there. I'm sure it'll be the same price or cheaper to do a V8 or stroker.

I would do it. That series of engines lasts just as long as the 4.0 and you can find a LOT of aftermarket goodies to make them have even more power.

When the 4.0 burst onto the scene, it had a full 180 horsepower in the Wrangler (a German publication listed it as 172 horsepower, and, in the Cherokee, it started out with 177 hp).

Jeep upped the ante in 1991, when the Cherokee's version made 190 hp.

Sorry but the L67 is leaps and bounds ahead. Also the L36(NA version of the L67) was 200hp.

Big issue is routing the intake plumbing because the air inlet on the Eaton M90 will be to the rear of the motor and may interfere with the fire wall.

The PCM will be easy. A few companies have off the shelf "buggy" tunes (pcm programed without transmission controls for use in dune buggy and other applications).

The motor is pretty bullit proof as long as you keep an eye on knock and tune accordingly. Stock motors are non issue. The problem rears it's head when you start putting smaller pullies on.

The stock bottom end is good for 600+hp. Check out ZZP's 10 sec drag car powered by the 3.8L. That's on a stock bottom end.

And no swapping in a V8 won't be easier or cheaper. Same things need to be done.

its a great motor. kit car companies love them! for a reason. but a stroker would make more sense for a off road vehicle because you will like the torque more with a stroker. same reason lots of people love to put V8s in buggies. but...the L67 has an almost perfect torque curve. look at this link. http://www.bruntonauto.com/

its a great motor. i loved my old GTP.

left stock, they're reliable as can be.

but once i went to a smaller pulley and started building it up for more power i started running into heat soak issues, and occasional detonation problems. and once i tossed the bottle on it i had about 6 months of fun (hard abuse on the street and track) before it needing a rebuild. also at the time, parts and engine management were pretty expensive. may be a little cheaper now though.

i never thought of using one in a jeep though, but i dont see why it wouldnt work great. better MPG's than the 4.0, nice power band with a smooth increase in power as the rpms go up.
