I've got the long overhead console and I always thought small manual pop up ones on each side would be cool. But, I'll chop the thing before I ever dive into that project

IMHO that would be an "Incredibility STUPID Thing To DO" to an XJ.

For one the weak factory frame
The idea of having an XJ is having a roof over your head, want something "topless" buy a Jeep that has none of buy a WJ like mine that came that way.
Ever think of a rollover and having a non factory installed one you need to.

I personally would never buy anything with an aftermarket or a self installed one. I bet you will find very few on this board over age 21 who would buy an XJ with one either. A big minus on a resale for sure.

Really? It kinda seems like their not much "structure" to the roof of an XJ. It seems like the roof is just all sheet metal anyway. How much structure would it take away just cutting a square out of it?

I had a sunroof. Removed the glass. Took the doors off and wheeled the piss out of it. Weak unibody arguement is invalid.

None

It's not a monocoque unibody like a Honda Civic. It's a uniframe. The XJ uniframe doesn't have a top and can't be separated from the body. Only have to worry about structure if you cut away pillars.

Cut a hole in your roof and take the doors off. Worst that will happen is you get wet.

For every one good long lasting install I will show you a 100 that are CRAP! Try to trade one with a add-on and see what happens with the price. Or really know what one just stock will bring side by side all being even.

I had a dealers license for 6 yrs and bought/sold and traded quite a few cars in CO. I stand corrected on strength from the cut but stand by the rest.

Ok so he should install it himself so it doesn't leak? Sounds like his question has been answered.
