I installed an sunpro mechanical temp gauge in my 96xj with the 2.5 4cylinder motor. I installed it in the thermostat housing where the other temp.sensor is that sends the.info for the.fuel.curve.and.runs.the.fans. I installed it.using an T fitting i found.at.the local plumbing store so i could still utilize the factory sensor.as.it.is.needed along with the sunpro. My problem is.the.sunpro guage dosent work when the jeep is running it stays at 100 or it mightt move up to 130 or.so but no higher. Then when i turn off the jeep the.sunpro works perfectly fine.it will rise.up 190ish. I know the fitting is getting sufficient coolant flow for.the sensor to work just dont get an reading until i turn off the jeep. Any help is appreciated.

Does it stay between 100-130 at all times when it's running? If it idles, does it climb? Sounds like your thermostat might be stuck open. Find a good thermometer and put it on the upper radiator hose and take a reading.

Well ive replaced the thermostat and the guage still does not work when the jeep is running. I let it sit outside and warm up for 10mins and then drove it up the rode and.the.guage didnt move at all. then i turned the jeep off and it starts working like it should. i even tried turning the jeep on after the guage had moved to 180 and the.guage just drops down as far as it can go around 100. what is goin on? has anyone had this happen to them?

Whats temp on dash gauge reading ? water has beeen run thru radiatoor allready when it reaches that fitting it will be cooler than actual motor ruiing at this point so its gonna read cooler . Also might be a air pocket trapped there causin coolant not to make contact with probe .

I have a dummy light in my guage cluster and the bulb is blown. So i kinda need to figure out the problem with this temp guage. I was thinkn it could.be.an air bubble also. But the guage works fine when vehicle isnt running. How would i go about bleeding the air out if there is any in there. Is there some type of.valve i can loosen to bleed it anywhere?

Might be forming a little air pocket in the top of the tee when the engine is running and fills when shut down. You could rotate the Tee so it's in the horizontal position and see if it makes a difference.
