Steering Box Reinforcing
I have done some reading and it appears that the XJ has somewhat of a weak steering box setup. I was just curious what people are doing to combat this. I am planning on running 32" tires on it and I would hate to have the steering fail while I have my family in the vehicle. Any suggestions on what to use? What works well, what doesnt work at all.

I have a JCR steering spacer on order so that should take care of that. I was just curious if that bolt on reinforcing really did the trick or if it was kind of a gimmick. Some of the other stuff that is out there is pretty serious, requiring welding and all sorts of other modifications. Id like to use my stock steering box, but safety is a big concern obviously.

if you dont wheel too hard you should be fine with the inner plate/spacer and outer brace. ive never had complete failure on the street. you just lose a lot of turning radius because of the cracked frame. you will know it and you will fix it before it completely cracks apart.
