Default Stainless Steel Header Cracked

So a few years back I put a stainless steel header on the jeep and wrapped it to keep the heat of the intake manifold. Lately it has been sounding like a tractor so I pulled it this weekend thinking I had a bad exhaust gasket, no such luck. Ever single weld had cracked...I guess I won't wrap the new header.

back side of the header

nice welds

Where did you buy the header from?

Bummer. Sometimes more expensive is not better. I have had a $120 APN header for the past few years thats been pretty good for me. You can also get a flex pipe installed in your down pipe to help avoid cracks.

That is a thought that needs to be looked in to.

You created that problem yourself by wrapping the header that was what caused thing to crack. What needs to be done is to have it coated at Jet Hot coatings that will keep the heat in, have used them for years on my race car headers.

I recommend a Dorman manifold with the flex joints built in. Mine has lasted three years after trying APN, Banks, and ATP.

It also looks like it was welded too hot which led to stress cracks on the toes of the welds. I'd say sub-par welding plus the heat wrap caused the issue. Ive seen several people run heat wrap on headers with no issue but they were custom built by a tig welder that new his stuff.
