stacks? :)

Hey I'm planning on making a snorkel and I am going to use it to say the least so I'm going to raise the exhaust and a idea popped in my head since my Jeeps chopped could I run stacks through the floor of the cargo area? Any ideas or tips?

jcwclm 03-24-2011 11:11 AM

I got a tip, DON'T DO IT! No, haha, if its what you want whatever man. It'd definitley be unique.

Diesel 03-24-2011 11:19 AM

It would be wierd haha. I take it you have a gas engine though, not sure how cool 2.5" stacks would look, unless you ran </=2.5" back almost the full distance than to a 8" so it doesnt affect anything.

MATT 87 CHEROKEE 03-24-2011 11:23 AM

Ya I would step it up to atleast 8, I wouldn't call them stacks with 2.5 pipes, I do a lot of fab and I know I could make it look good

Diesel 03-24-2011 11:27 AM

Well I want pictures haha

Ya if I decide to do it I will post lots of pics

dukie564 03-24-2011 01:13 PM

not to discourage you, but you're definitely going to have to address the heat and exhaust fumes issues

freegdr 03-24-2011 01:29 PM

it i think would be different but 8 inch would be to big around dont now if you guy remember the old v ettes had side pipes with heat shield they were abou three inch around with heat shields and about the correct length http://www.jegs.com/i/Patriot%20Exha...0002/-1?CT=999

MATT 87 CHEROKEE 03-24-2011 02:38 PM

And to think I thought I may be the first person to put stacks on a chopped xj (well maybe 2 stacks)... most people are not dumb enough to chop there xj and almost no one sees pipes on a 18 Wheeler and thinks hmmm I am going to put those on my Cherokee...

For heat I'm not worried as long as I don't put it near somthing flammable, and for fumes it will be above the roof line I don't see why fumes would be a issue, and please feel free to discourage me I'm hard headed enough to do it anyways the worst you can do is prevent me from doing somthing I would regret later or somthing I didn't think out very well

functional stack= ok..... stupid big chrome ones= go buy a dodge and pretend you own a mack

if you want to do it do it like the red one in the picture that way it will make sence and be fully funtional

Well its purely for function, I have made fun of gas trucks with stacks but at least I have a excuse for puting them on my jeep... and they are going to be big if I'm going to spend the money ill make sure they are the biggest ones I can afford (for the cool factor) and I'm going to run 2 stacks not 1, I may run them together up the center of the jeep not the sides, as for the chrome my xj came with every chrome option and it does not have a single part that is chrome now so it doesn't take much to figure out how I feel about chrome, but on a jeep that is all black chrome stacks may look nice, it comes down to price.. just to make myself clear I don't think chrome belongs on Jeeps in most cases

chrisquested 03-24-2011 03:20 PM

Yea i honestly think you should put a 2.5 inch stack (or stacks) on the jeep not no 8 inch...

Now put your snorkel on, Raise you exhaust through the cargo area and drive it through some deep water make sure some one takes pics! and have a blast!

you will be less cool with 8in stacks.i am not sure you understand how big an 8in stack is not to mention the awful megaphone affect you will have. and my 92 i just picked up has the full chrome kit and it's to much.. door handles, roofrack, bumpers, mirrors, jeep logos, window trim, grill.. and so on..

leecarr 03-24-2011 04:13 PM

If you use an 8" stack you can also put a wood stove in the back.

 Even without the stove, it will make the inside pretty toasty (unless he uses heat shield).

rob93 03-24-2011 04:45 PM

8" is huge. My friend has a 4" stack on an s10 and it looks about right for size

CenCaliAlum2010 03-24-2011 04:46 PM

I like this idea! I have only seen a few trucks that look good with stacks but that chopped xj with the single stack out back looks badass!

I just wouldn't run it anywhere inside the cabin because of the heat issue. It would be a crappy day for someone when you hit some bump and one of the passengers used it as an "oh ****" handle an burns the hell outta themselves...

Ya I plan on replacing the rear bench with 2 racing bucket seats that match the front and when I do I will fab up a guards to go with them I need the stacks in before the buckets and the buckets before the roll cage and then I can put on heat guards that won't get n the way of the 6 point harnesses

btm24 03-24-2011 10:30 PM

very cool keep us posted!

Brandon

CenCaliAlum2010 03-24-2011 11:29 PM

Sweet! Keep us posted with pics of ur progress and the problems you ran into while figuring it out!

It's cool to see people thinking outside of the box and having the right tools to take an idea and fab it right up into reality! Not gonna lie I'm pretty jealous :P

X2 its bad enough having to put up with it being shoved down your throat every where you go but you would think that forums this highly moderated would at least attempt to stop it may try to keep it at a minimum how is it if I mention cat and remove in the same thread it is nearly guaranteed to be read by a moderator and I will get another one of there nice little pm's but I can shove my religion down your throat when ever I feel like it

alloutperform 03-25-2011 08:22 PM

oh hell come on guys, is this really necessary? the aliens that created us as a science project come back in a year and a half anyways can't we all just get along til then?

and not put giant chrome stacks on our xjs

I my self am a strong beliver in god, however I just can't stand that people can't keep there religion to there self, I don't know what's worse aliens creating us, or that earth is only a couple hours old there are no perfect religions and people still have to argue about it.. about the stacks, don't hate new ideas I know change is scary and its bad to stand out but as far as I'm concerned in a jeep with as much work and money invested its a crime to blend in

TheDale 03-25-2011 08:58 PM

Back on topic. I think the 2.5" stacks with like 4" tips would look good. 8" stacks would look dumb as fawk. It would be like ricing out your XJ.

alloutperform 03-25-2011 09:00 PM

back to the stacks... you may want to try to get your hands on a couple test pieces or maybe even some big pvc pipe to get an idea of what it will look like 8in, stacks looked too big on my mack R model i drove for a while.. go get some 4in pvc to get an idea of size i bet it will give you
the look you want

TJkiller98 03-25-2011 10:35 PM

Love the idea of stacks on chopped xjs! Im planning on chopping mine this summer and also planning on doing one functional stack. My idea is 2.5 straight pipe from the cat to the stack and then have a cherry bomb glass pack with a tip on top for the actual stack. I think it would look badass *** well as being loud and functional through the deep stuff.
