Default spicer u-joints

so i was just on the spicer wed site. are the 5-297x u joints no more and are replaced by 5-760x? thats what there web site says i just wanted to double check with everyone because i went to the jy this morning and pulled shafts from two jeeps one to put in the jeep one as a extra set.

Correct. The 5-760 replaced the 297. Which year shafts did you buy? The 760's will only fit in 1995-2001 dana 30 axle shafts, or ABS shafts pre 95

You can pick up the full circle clips at pretty much any parts store then it's just a matter of grinding the yokes on the shafts to make them fit. Pretty easy upgrade.

Your local parts store should have the 760x joints for around 30$ or less.

Yea I'm not worryed about that. I just don't know if I wanna put full c clips or tack weld the caps on

Keep in mind if you weld the caps and break a joint you better have a spare shaft because you can't replace a joint if the cap is welded on. That and heat will weaken your shaft when you weld it not to mention the cap which isn't exactly all that thick on the top.

i have an extra set of shafts. ill prob do full clips and hope for the best till i do locking hubs and cromo shafts.

don't bother with locking hubs on a 30. and the full circle clips will do you right, if you break that setup even with stock shafts you were most likely doing something wrong. just wheel smart and you should have very few issues
