So I was wondering around the auto parts store yesterday to burn some time before work. Knowing I need a new air filter but not yet in the market for a full new intake system I looked at the K&N drop in filters. Astounded by the price I noticed something next to them. We've all seen the cowl intakes and cone filters made by Specter and now they offer a high flow OEM filter replacement. For about half the price of the K&N I decided to give the Specter a try. It retails for $29.99 at the auto parts store. After purchasing I immediately installed it. There was an instant increase in throttle response, smoother and faster acceleration and a slight change in the exhaust note. I'll be checking over the next few weeks for a change in fuel mileage also.
This is the perfect upgrade for anyone looking for better air flow without emptying the pockets for a full intake system.
I do not work for nor am I affiliated with Specter in any way.

Over all I'd say it was worth it. Plus being a lifetime filter that can be cleaned an reused over and over again.

Those flow better than a paper filter at the cost of letting dust through. If your in an urban area, you can probably get away with one. If your out with the dirt, I wouldn't suggest one.

When was the last time you replaced your air filter before you put this one in? Sounds more like your old filter was just dirty as hell, as I had that same filter in mine and felt no difference from a clean paper filter. You can make a CAI for $15 dollars more, then you'll feel a real difference.

I went from a BRAND NEW paper filter to this same filter and noticed a definite change in the intake noise and smoother response as well. They are 19.99 at Autozone around here. When i went in they only had one, and the box was torn pretty bad. got it for $10! the filter was untouched by whatever tore the box. I'd buy it again for sure.

Touche, glad its not going to waste
And for all you that get his filter, remember that you actually do have to oil it after you clean it. I always just though it was mostly just some BS made up by the CAI companys to make more money, but after washing my Spectre cone filter 2 times without oiling it I can tell a difference in performance.

yup! The good thing is that I wont have to buy the filter recharge kit for at least another 6 months!

I have the spectre aswell. I've had k&n before. I clean and oil regularly and no complaints at all! I've managed 600km (370m) to quite a few tanks

I got one for the 87 as well. I know it helped my jeep because my idle smoothed a bit. Didnt seem quite as labored. Other than that i didnt notice any significant change. But the lifetime part was what got me to begin with anyway
