I had the idea of rigging up some kind of pre-filter to go over the hole in the cowl.
Makes sense to have a pretty loose media over the end of the intake.

I have a prefilter between the cowl mount and the rubber connector. Also I used rtv on the cowl mount when I installed it against the cowl. I have yet to find anything caught in the prefilter except a couple pine needles. The filter itself looks brand new.

I did find some mud splash PAST the filter and going into the TB, but I blame myself for not checking it more than once a year and retightening the hose clamps.

I should have made an upward scoop or half circle with a piece of mesh screen on top. Probably would have helped the whole issue.

I cleaned it after every trip that I went through a big mud hole. Didn't take too many of those to clog it. Sand dunes probably did the most damage.

FYI: I was informed today that the Sprectre 9948 Cowl Intake for later model Jeep XJ's has been discontinued. CarID is cancelling my order that was on backorder for November delivery and refunding me my money.

I bought mine either on September 27 or 28, got an email September 29 saying backordered until November, then as I said got an email November 3 saying:

"Upon processing your order, our manufacturing facility has informed us that the following item(s) are no longer available, please view details and options bellow: Reason: Part Discontinued By Manufacturer without prior notice "

And a call Today November 5th asking me what I want to do.....

I was looking at the same thing, but don't want to use the "duct flexible pipe" I think it may dirty the air stream, so I want to use smooth pipe of some sort.

Well they have prebent aluminium piping too, maybe map it out with PVC then get the piping? I can't weld though...

If I make my own its going to be silicone elbows with straight piping.

My thoughts too toasterknight, silicone elbows with straight pipes.

I am seriously thinking of getting ahold of some contacts and having a kit manufactured, with both Spectre and Thor not offering them any longer someone needs to fill the void. I know you can make them, just nice to have a kit for a few dollars more.

Kits are nice, and I don't know what I was thinking with an all aluminium intake, it needs to flex.
