Speaker upgrade?
Sorry if this is the wrong section but I tried searching and it won't work on the mobile app but yeah.
I have a 96 jeep Cherokee sport that I want to upgrade the front door speakers. The driver side blew out and I want to do them both.
What size are they and what will fit? I was about to order a sub from crutch field but I'm thinking I get speakers too.
Are there any direct bolt ins or will fabbing be required?
What speakers and systems are you guys running?
I have a jvc headunit if it matters

The doors are 5.25" but I've heard people fit 6.5" without much hassle. There is also someone here that makes 10" sub boxes for the back chubby hole. Check the vendor section for that.

No, I don't lick fish.
there's also a few on here that have modified the rear hatch to accomodate 6x9's... you could even make a shallow enclosure out of MDF and attach it to the rear hatch to give you a little more mounting depth for them...
but as for the stock size.. yes the doors and the rear hatch are 5.25's for the 84-96... I think the 97 up is the same, but I'm not positive.
if in doubt.. you can go on to crutchfield.com and try "what fit's my vehicle"... they've usually got it right... only time I think they were wrong was with my '88 camaro.... but that thing was a hack job from the PO

and the new..
Those are 6.5".. I got this kit from walmart that was really cheap and have been really impressed with. it has handsfree bluetooth stereo and two door speakers. I have yet to change my back doors. but the stereo is really nice for the money.

diameter-wise 6.5's are all basically the same size... with maybe a minor difference, but won't effect mounting... as far as mounting depth... you should be fine with any speaker... there's plenty of mounting depth room in those doors from what I remember

Yeah I got pioneer 6.5 that were surprisingly compact, no problems mounting what so ever and they sound great. Can't beat that for 37 bucks a pair

not at all... I got a set of 3way 6x9's for the rear deck of the buick we just sold... they were an off brand made by Jensen and they ended up sounding amazing with the factory amplifier setup.... 35 bucks is king!
you should check out www.propertyroom.com they usually have some decent deals on speakers, amps, decks, and subs.... they're a police auction website... most of the stuff is used, but sometimes they have new and refurb

Lol @ jensen, theyre the speakers I have in my soundbar and they sound terrible. How can you seal up a soundbar the best? It doesn't bump it just rattles (not blown)
Also I don't know how to seal up my door speakers, what do you guys recommend?

5.25" like everyone else has said. i replaced all four of mine with these Polk marine grade speakers (i doubt i'll ever be in that much water) but they are great for the price. really efficient so they put out a good amount of volume with little power though i upgraded the stereo to an alpine unit and added the power pac mini amp to push out 45wX4 rms. good clean sound with better than expected bass,
here's an amazon link

just about every speaker manufacturer makes a low grade, mid grade, and high grade speaker.... are the speakers running off of an amp or off the factory deck? Also, do you have a baffle installed behind the speaker? What is the power handling and frequency response to the speakers. Jensen makes some decent speakers as well as some crappy ones... not saying they're the best, but if you're getting terrible sound out of the speakers, you might wanna check your setup, otherwise you'll go and spend money on new speakers and they'll still end up sounding bad
