Default Spartan locker help

Broke an axle on my 99 xj front d30 which damaged my carrier. Replaced carrier and reinstalled my spartan locker in new carrier, now it seems like it doesn’t wanna unlock, binds up, jerks violently when it finally does unlock, bangs like crazy. None of which happened in the old carrier. I’ve had this thing out and back in twice now, no visible damage to the locker itself. I’m at a loss . Any ideas?? Seems to be sure sometimes than others.

Shims are likely not correct. Research the issue, reassemble carefully.

I’ve had this issue for several weeks now, every old post I see with someone having a similar issue every response basically called is normal lunchbox behavior, definitely not the case. The locker wasn’t shimmed in the other carrier, so I assumed it’d be the same for the new one.

wondering if it’s a gear issue, if excessive backlash could cause this binding ?

Have you measured the gap between the spacers and the pinion shaft? I cant remember what it should be but there is also a max difference side to side. If they are off, you will need to add or subtract the thrust washers with different thicknesses until you get the right gaps.
If you broke one shaft you could have bent the other. Did you check this?
