Default Spare axle shaft????

does anyone know where i can get some spare dana 30 shafts, and how much they should cost. i have called my local junkyards, and they have no tj's or post 96 xjs, i am looking for shafts the bigger u joints. i have found a few people parting out xjs on here but they won't just sell the shafts, and shipping on a whole axle would suck, i have also checked craigslist to no avail. i've been looking for months. and i really need a set before the end of the month. please help me

Honestly, stock shafts will be fine. Unless you totally abuse your vehicle. Im running on 31x10.50s in my 85 with a 300cid stroker and stock joints. Just regularly inspect and lube the joints.

Speaking from experience it's going to take time unless your willing to by new or reman. Most people are not willing to sell just the shafts and when you do find an axle in a jy it's usually been stripped of the shafts already. Some jy's wanted $250 for the shafts only and I laughed at them.

Finally I found an intact axle at a jy and I had to beg for just the shafts. It wasn't a pick a part type place but I told the guy I would bring my tools and pull them my self and he finally agreed and I pulled them myself.

He was *****ing about the price when I was paying for them. I ended up paying $120 for both shafts.

Set a radius of miles you are willing to drive and call every junkyard in that radius 2 times a week and don't stop till you find them. It's what I had to do and I live near houston with hundreds of jy's in the houston metro area. Just got to be persistent.

Oh yea, ebay may be a good resource.

Well, just drive sensibly and pick a good line. You'll be fine. In case of emergency you can always remove the inner shaft and drive home. As a general rule, you don't always need upgrades. They should ne chosen based on your actual driving style/terrain.

I had stock axles/ujoints locked on 33's also. it didn't sit well with me and I also wanted peace of mind. I got my set of shafts from craigslist. $80 and from a 2000 tj. then put spicer 760's in with full circle snap rings. I'm always on craigslist looking for rigs being parted out. keep in mind that ALL 95+ take 5-297 ujoints. so add those years to your search

Get chromos from rwkhaus in the vendor section and keep your stock ones as spares.

I sure as hell wouldn't run the smaller u joints locked on 33's

newer shafts with 5-760x joints and full circle clips are a smart upgrade.
