Default Spacers/shackles vs. just springs

I was wondering if there's any difference between...

3" coils vs. 2" coils with a 1" spacer

or between

3" leaf springs vs. 2" leaf springs with 1" shackles.

Is it better to use all spring without spacers/shackles, or is it basically the same in the end?

Thanks.

it depends on spring rate. stock coil (or close to it) with spacer will probably be softer than 3" coil.

again, spring rate. but why wou;d you go with a 2 or 3 leaf pack?? the ride would suck!! look for more leafs with lower rate.

the combo is generally better for proper geometry when lifted.
Thanks.
hope that helps

The 3" lift leaf springs I've been looking at have more than 2 or 3 actual leafs, leaves, whatever. I guess one of us is confused; probably me. lol

Thanks for the info. That makes sense to me.

iirc, stock is 3 leafs, leaves, either way.. my OME's have 5. is it an add a leaf (aal) maybe? it would offer to add one or two leafs to your existing pack.

I was looking at OME. They're all full leaf packs, but there are several options: 2" , 2 1/2, 3.

I was just trying to figure out if I should get the 3" or go with less and add drop shackles.

Thanks

id vote 2" medium duty and a 1-1.5" shackle.

I would go with full coils up front and 2 inch leaf springs with 1 inch shackle in the rear for better performance.

Stock xj have 4 leaves per side.

skip the spacers and blocks. You go taller, you want stiffer springs to keep the body roll down. Soft springs with added height just makes it top heavy. also blocks are hell on your leaf springs and contribute to axle wrap.

With the age of our XJ's IMHO it is best to go with new coils and leaf springs at the height you want, in most cases the old ones are well worn and sagging some.
