If I was wanting my stance wider, I would be seriously looking at different rims. I have the same flares on my XJ with 31x10.50x15 Duratracs on Mickey Thomson Side Biters and they are perfectly flush with the flare. It might be a few bucks more to upgrade yours wheels, but when it comes to safety a few bucks is worth it. IMO

My XJ, not the greatest shot. Taken with phone.

I hear what you are saying. Nice XJ btw, the flats look sweet. Is it really that much of a risk if you buy a top quality spacer like spydertrax?

Thanks for the compliment.

I have never delt with the spydertrax ones and know many people do run them. They have come along way over the years in terms of quality and being made from billet instead of cast metals. Not sure how much a set with cost you, but I got my wheels shipped for just under $500 bucks. So depending on how much the spacers are, it my be worth getting new wheels. You can always go with a different wheels that are cheaper than what I have with different backspacing.

Just looked up the price of the spacers and you are looking at about 200 for both front and rears, you can get a set of new steel wheels with a different offset for about the same price.

That's what I am researching now. If I got spacers I'd just need the new 1.5" rears since the ones on the rear now can be moved to the front. So there's $100. But at the same time I want to be safe and reliable.

The wheels I have now are Cragar Black D's and it looks like the only backspacing they offer are 4" and 4 3/4". Trying to find out now what I have.

Well you have many options for sure.

But if you already have spacers in the rear and only have to spend a 100 bucks that seems to be your cheapest route. I overlooked that you had a 8.8 in the rear, so in reality different wheels would do the same think unless you got 2 different offset wheels.

So it sounds like spacers then. Either way your ride looks sweet!!

I only have a 3" RC lift at the moment, but I'm in the works for a RE 4.5 so I can fit some 33's! Just waiting to hear back from a buddy that can get me hooked up hopefully.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-84-5865/ they also have the soft 8 style too
those have a 3.75 backspacing so that would bring the tires out about a inch more on each side

Nice find, now I have to think this over based on what the best route would be. Thanks for searching that.

If I change the backspacing 1" on each wheel without any spacer I will be at:

Front - 69.5"
Rear - 68.75"

If I do spacers I will be at:

Front - 70"
Rear - 69.75"

The only thing that I am really paranoid about is that the front will have more stress on it. I really don't want a wheel to crack off of the axle due to the stress.

no problem, i like the width of the spacers better but i like the not having to worry about anyting with the lower backspaced wheels. thats a tough choice

As others have said, it's perfect the way it is! Not only in looks, but also as a peace of mind in not having to run any additional components.

They put just as much stress on the hubs and wheel bearings as a lower backspaced wheel, so that argument is moot.

It loosened up because they werent installed properly, or he neglected to check the torque after the first few hundred miles. Like i said, they put the same stress on hubs as getting a wider stance with new wheels.

So let's see here, if I go with 1.25" in the front and 1.5" the rear I'll be around 70" in the front and 69.75" in the back.

Does that sounds about right to you guys? Also I have a Ford 8.8 rear end on this thing, can I still use the 1.25 spacers out back for the front or is it a different bolt pattern? I'm going to call Spydertrax in the AM if nobody knows but I figured I'd ask.
Same bolt pattern.

You defintately installed them improperly if you sheared 3 studs after a mile of driving.

Spacers are are a great upgrade as long as they are installed properly.

They don't add any more stress to the hubs than a wheel with less than stock offset, as some here have stated.
