Default so I want my xj to go fast

what upgrades make your xj go faster? short of an engine swap
does changing the gears do anything to add speed?

yes and no.

larger number gears like 4.56 4.88 etc will help you accelerate faster, but drastically will reduce the top end mph.

the 4.0 has some punch, but it will never be "fast"

what effect would 4:10 gears have with the AX15?
faster acceleration?
ran on a 4.5 lift with 33's

it's a unibody. way to flexy for huge power number. mount the unibody on a frame with similar wheel base and add a 454 big block. at least it's look like a XJ. Haha

The stock gears and AX-15 and 33's is probably sluggish as hell. Toss in some 4.56's and call it good will be a bit zippier and I feel like you don't drive much over 100 so the loss of top end wont be noticed ever.

You want big power u gotta spend big money, big money equals internals, best option wpuld be stroker but its still not gonna be a HUGE difference in speed although there will be a difference. Aside from that put some boost to it, but once again for proper boost setups you need proper internals....its a never ending war you wont win lol

Gears will make a very noticable difference. You don't really lose top speed if you have bigger tires, you actually get some of it back.

The biggest difference I saw in performance was a big bore throttle body when coupled with a 99 intake, apn header, and flowmaster muffler. I was astonished how quick that made it...
