smittybilt winches and d rings
i am in the hunt for a winch and was offered a smittybilt 10k with a year of warranty. was kinda inclined to buy it but never heard of any comments or opinions about it. neither good nor bad and wanted to know what you guys thought.
i also bought the xrc front bumper and saw a bunch of d rings on ebay by smittybilt also and wondered what size they had to be to fit on the gumper

As far as the d rings go as long as they are 3/4".

I have 3 XRC8s.
They're slow.
But I've never had an issue out of any of them.
The newer models are made much better.
I'd buy another one.

Remember to stretch the cable before you use it !
Go to a empty parking lot with a pole that has a concrete base wrap a tree saver strap around that un-spool the winch to where you have 5 wraps left on the drum, Hook the cable to the strap and start to suck the cable in with some tension on it I usually use a few clicks up on the e brake in neutral until your at the final few feet then spool in until you can hook to a d ring

as with any winch, warn included. they all have a duty cycle. so if you're doing a long full cable pull up an incline, just remember to stop about half way and let the winch motor cool down.
50% of all winch failures is due to over running the duty cycle. and if the winch is caked in mud, that decreases the duty cycle even more.
the other 50% is most likely poor solenoids.
keep your cable wraps nicely laid out along the drum. you don't want any overlapping or birds nests happening while you're winching. the force of the crossed cables will crush the inner sleeve and shorten the life of the cable making it dangerous.
